Encourage Reading at Home and School

Whether you're an advocate of rewards or not, surely there's no doubt that keeping a record of achievement against a goal is a great motivator for most children. A reward chart demonstrably shows their progress and in this case, as a small chart stored by each pupil, progress is not shared and so pupils finding it harder wont be demotivated by the achievements of their classmates.

As a parent we too had a reluctant reader for a child and did much research into how to encourage and stimulate a desire for reading. With reading skills so fundamental to all aspects of learning, you can't help but feel anxious if your child is reluctant to pick up a book. That was a few years ago now, today's parents and teacher's are challenged by many other very appealing activities, usually computer based that most kids are drawn like magnets too.

Now with the benefit of exploring teacher resources ideas and liaising with teachers, we have devised a reading record bookmark that can be used to set a target - in this case 20 steps - and potentially incentivise reading with a reward sticker for each step of the objective journey. Our experience proves that you should never underestimate the power of a reward sticker! What's more it's purposefully a small chart i.e bookmark that can be stored, for ever ready in the pupil's current reading book and it will naturally find its way home for parents to see. This opens up the opportunity for liaison between home and school, with parents sharing the job of encouraging their child to complete the reading objective / work with their child to complete the reading record.

....and so the Reading Record Bookmark was created using our most popular designs (owls, bees, emoji, sea buddies, kids). For each one you'll find a growing range of co-ordinating teacher resources such as display borders (to decorate your reading scheme?), certificates (to reward your reading achievers?), teacher stamps (to mark and praise..) and of course teacher stickers - including mini reward stickers designed to complement the mini reward chart.

So here's the range - click here to see the designs in their glory. Each product links to the co-ordinating resources and complementary reward stickers. Reading Record Bookmarks
