Time to Get Spooky! Halloween Ideas for the Classroom (Halloween Stickers, Posters and More!)

Halloween, unsurprisingly, tends to be very popular with primary school students. There's something undeniably fun about trick-or-treating, making pumpkin pie or dressing up as a vampire! Fun aside, Halloween also presents a great opportunity to get children inspired in the classroom, and to inject some serious energy into your teaching.

Here are a few fun Halloween ideas for the classroom to get you inspired for this deliciously spooky time of year.

• Get decorating. Kids become really motivated if you set the scene for them. Turn your classroom into a sinister Halloween den for the day, complete with fake cobwebs, witches brooms and pumpkin lantern wall displays.

• Unleash their creativity. Now is the perfect time to introduce some Halloween themed activities. Creating spooky stories provides the perfect opportunity to teach your class about generating suspense and developing plot-lines, and making Halloween art allows them to release their creative energy.

• Have a Halloween competition. A friendly themed competition is sure to be an instant hit on the 31^st October. Organise the class into teams and set them a research challenge, where they have to find out fascinating Halloween-related facts by searching in the classroom for the information. Reward the winning team with a colourful spooky pencil each, and give the rest of the class some fun Halloween personalised stickers.

  

Using Special Occasions as a Springboard for Learning

Halloween, just like any other special occasion throughout the year, provides a wonderful opportunity to get your students inspired and actively engaged in their learning. The more fun and memorable you can make it for them, the more likely they are to take away something of real value from the day.

If you're a natural at entertaining, why not get into character yourself on the day? The students will be enrapt at the prospect of being taught by a friendly witch or bat, and it's a great way of ensuring that you get the attention of the entire class (and the classroom!)
